Spelunky HD had an Alien Queen, who Spelunky 2 names as Lahamu probably because aliens come from the stars, making the Aliens 'Tiamat's firstborn'. Her first-born, Lahamu, was incorrectly identified in the 19th century as a star-goddess. Their spirits thereafter resided in Irkalla, the land of the dead.Īs in her original mythology, Tiamat is the mother of a ton of other gods or monsters. In fact, Kingu's blood was one of the ingredients to make humans. In the original mythology, Tiamat and Kingu died before humans existed. In Spelunky, not only is Kali's sole purpose to encourage slaughter, but her statue clearly has a bigass tongue, as though demon-Kali is masquerading as goddess-Kali to build his/her cult. Kali is a rather respected Hindu goddess and a destroyer of evil, but there just so happens to be another Kali - a (male) demon known for his large tongue and penchant for slaughter. Spelunky, however, is a little smarter about it. Spelunky is partially an Indiana Jones parody, and Indiana Jones has a very unflattering depiction of Kali. I have no clue why the moon other than that the moon is important to many mythologies and the final part of the game is themed on becoming a constellation (a concept especially in Greek mythology.)
